Artistic Manufacturing was created by a moment of inspiration…. In 1958, Ellis Monk was working at a company in Des Moines, Iowa, that specialized in producing brass and copper giftware. He was also a member and Sunday School teacher at Grant Park Christian Church. The church asked Ellis if he could make a cross and candlesticks for its sanctuary.
Ellis was inspired, and helped create the pieces. In doing so, he helped the company move into the business of churchware manufacturing.
In 1965, Ellis and his wife bought the company, named it Artistic Manufacturing Corporation, and decided to manufacture only churchware. In 1968, Artistic moved to its current site in Altoona, Iowa. In the following three decades the company would grow 300 percent.
