Flagons and Decanters

This beautiful crystal flagon is 24% lead, mouth blown, and hand cut un the Sudety Mountain region of southern Poland along the Czech Republic border.  This flagon is etched with grapes and vines, is 7in. tall and hold 24 oz.

Hand-cutting crystal... onto a blank crystal object, the artist applies the designs, largest patterns first.  After the pattern is fully applied, the crystal is cut.  When the large patterns are finished, smaller, more detailed designs are drawn onto the crystal and cut.  When cutting is complete, the crystal is dipped into a special acid for approximately 30 minutes to remove the white sandblast effect caused by the cutting process.  Acid dipping also rounds sharp edges and "polishes" unfinished areas.
